Lesley Russell Owner/Baker/Head decorator
Lesley Russell
I'm a proud mother, wife and owner of Cake a Chance.
I graduated from MVHS in 1997. I've always loved design and working with colour so I joined the team of Benjamin Moore in 2005. During this time I also attended the ICS School of Interior Design where I graduated with Honours as a Registered Interior Designer. In 2006, with my Interior design background I went on to work as a consultant for Edgewater gifts and gallery. Then in 2007 I accepted another amazing opportunity at the Gun Registry, where I was employed for over 5 years.
My first love is my daughter Kaylee. Like most mothers I want the best for her daughter. Therefore, when Kaylee wanted not 1 but 2 fondant cakes for her 9th birthday that could not be found, I did what most moms would do… I rolled up my sleeves and dove in to making the best fondant cakes for her.
When I decided to make these cakes it literally changed my life! My friends and family kept inquiring where I “bought” the cakes from and when I told them I had made them, they all began to ask me to make cakes for them as well. My hobby quickly bloomed into a full time business.
After 6 months of selling cakes and making a name for myself I hit a bump in the road and thought I may have to cut my new adventure short. I was heartbroken and at stand still but my husband Alan told me not to stop; you had come too far to give up. He built a shop where I could sell my cakes. Another hit! I was there for a year and literally out grew my business in Point aux Carr. So I found the perfect location, I moved Cake a chance to Newcastle and have been there for the last 2 years. I look forward to many years of cake decorating!
